How is the price on each date calculated?

You give one number you already know: your Saturday rate in a regular month. Every date is priced from it:

Price = Saturday rate × day % of Saturday × (100 − slow-month discount %), rounded to the nearest $1, $10, $50 or $100

  • Each date belongs to one day group: Mon–Thu, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The day group logic is the same as in the venue rental pricing calculator.
  • In a regular month the discount is 0, so the price is the Saturday rate × the day %.
  • In a slow month each day group takes its own discount off its regular price. Saturday is 100% of Saturday, so its slow-month price is the Saturday rate less the Saturday discount.
  • Rounding happens once, after both percentages are applied, so every price is within half a rounding step of the exact figure.

What are the starting assumptions?

The planner needs starting percentages to show a calendar. They are placeholders, not market data or recommended discounts, and every one is editable:

  • Regular prices: Mon–Thu 50%, Friday 80% and Sunday 70% of Saturday.
  • Slow-month discounts: Mon–Thu 20%, Friday 15%, Saturday 10% and Sunday 15% off.
  • Slow months: January, February, March, December. That fits a northern-hemisphere wedding season; change it to match the months you struggle to fill.

Your booking history is the best guide: which months still have open dates close to the date, and what you have actually been paid for each.

Worked example

A venue charges $5,000 for a Saturday in a regular month. With the starting assumptions, a Friday is $5,000 × 80% = $4,000 in a regular month. In a slow month it takes 15% off: $4,000 × 85% = $3,400. Here is March 2027, a slow month:

Frequently asked questions

Does this planner tell me how much to discount?
No. It has no market data and makes no claim about what other venues charge or discount. It applies the percentages you enter to your own Saturday rate, so you can see the result on a calendar before you decide. The starting percentages are placeholders.
How is the price on each date worked out?
Price = Saturday rate × the day group’s percentage of Saturday × (100 − the slow-month discount for that day group), rounded once to the nearest $1, $10, $50 or $100. In a regular month the discount is 0.
Which months should I mark as slow?
The months that are hardest for you to fill. Your booking history is the best guide: look at which months still have open dates close to the date. The starting selection is January, February, March and December, a placeholder from a northern-hemisphere wedding calendar.
Why can each day group have its own discount?
Mon–Thu, Friday, Saturday and Sunday often sell differently. A bigger discount on the days that sit empty longest, and a smaller one on Saturdays, is one way to use it, but that is a choice for you to make from your own numbers, not a recommendation.
Can I download the price calendar?
Yes. The PDF and CSV contain the month on screen: every date with its day, price and price type, plus the price by day. Use the previous and next buttons to move to another month, then download again.
Is anything I type sent to VenueDirector?
Your numbers stay in your browser, which also remembers them for next time. We count anonymous events such as “a result was exported”, without your inputs or anything that identifies you. Your inputs and email are stored only if you ask us to email your results.
